K - 2 Enrichment/Tutoring

Our K - 2 enrichment program is designed to help your child master literacy and math skills in fun, engaging, individualized, and game-like ways. It also focuses on social skills in a group setting with two to three other children.

How it works

For the first hour I do group teaching that is fun for the kids but also helps develop reading/writing skills.

For the 2nd hour, we move into the area where there are various play centers, such as areas for dramatic play, blocks (including wooden unit blocks, Magnatiles, Wedgits, Duplos, etc.), reading area, doll house, a reading area, a craft area and more. We also have a snack during this time.

About the Teacher/Tutor

I am DeAnn Jones, an active member of Stanwood. I have been teaching preschool for 12 years. I have also volunteered in the classroom at Cedarhome Elementary and Twin City Elementary Schools. I teach early childhood education classes for Purdue University Global, Purdue's online degree program. I have taken lots of Science of Reading courses and have a love of teaching reading, particularly struggling readers. I taught a summer reading group last summer for kids just graduating from Kindergarten. I love creating curriculum and environments that are engaging for every learner!

Questions and Answers:

Can I see the program first before I join?

Absolutely! I'd love to give you a tour of our place and show you the learning environment, activities, and play area. You can call 360-899-1019 to set up a time for you and your child to visit. You can even enroll at that time if you like what you see.

What if that day or time does not work for me?

Unfortunately, Tuesdays from 4:00 to 6:00 is the only slot available for the group tutoring. I do individual tutoring on Mondays if that works better for you. It is $75/half hour.

Why are there other children, and this is not one-on-one tutoring?

I will not take more than three-four children. I create activities that encompass all the skills the particular children in the group need help with. It works out even better with three to four children than it would with one-on-one because children often learn from each other and/or are motivated by others being there, trying to look good for their peers and do their best. They are also motivated to finish their activities so they can play in the centers with the play materials and with other children. Putting their learning into action in the play area requires other children. Therefore, this class size works out perfectly!

Can I enroll later?

Yes, as long as there is still an open spot.
